Tutorial on Labels

At the bottom of the post window in the tan bar, right center, is a space called labels.

The purpose of labels is to be able to click on the links and see related pictures put together.

Labels should be short words or phases that define a group of pictures that may not be displayed together on the blog but that you would like to view together. They could be the name of a person who will reappear more than once, such as Geoff or Keith, or the name of a photographic technique such as black and white or Orton effect, or the name of something often photographed, like flower, tree. They should not be the name of something that will only appear once.

The way labels work on the blog is, when you see a picture with a given label, say red, you can click on it, and all the pictures with "red" as an important element will show up together to be compared and viewed. This is helpful when you have a theme such as "winter trees" and another "black and white" and you do a picture that could be either. By clicking either of those labels (you can add more than one, with commas between them), you can view that picture both with the winter trees pix or with the black and white pix. Someone visiting the blog with a special interest in "Orton Effect" or "Smudge painting" could click that label and view all those pictures that they are interested in.

To see how this works, scroll down through the labels in the right sidebar until you get to one with several entries, such as season, winter, or snow. Click on that and you will see all the pictures labeled "snow" or "season" together.
