messing about from messing
I used levels and the r/h side ended up too dark so I used the history brush to bring it back down a bit. Then I used shadow/highlight and then the left hand side was still too light in comparison so I just burnt it with the burn tool.
I've used levels a lot more since CPS (Colchester Photographic Society) where they have been through the basics in PS. But they have shown us to use layer masks and use the brush to brush out effects you don't want whereas I find it much easier to simply use the history brush and keep it all on the original layer. I always have my original RAW file to go back to if needs be. I like all the repetition of the leaves. We have an acer like this but it is in a pot and by this time of year, however much I water it, it goes all brown around the edges. The only time it looks good is in the spring. It really needs putting in the ground.

Maybe I overdid it a bit?
Much better! Sometimes I just blank out and can't think what to do next to save it.
