What wood would be used here Val ? I am late joining in the conversation - don't feel you have to answer all my comments. I am in Nelson helping Sarah with Zilly, they move to Auckland on the 29th November, Adrian is already working there, Auckland is in the North Island, it will mean a flight to visit them from now on. Shame but needs must - if that is where the work is.

My daughter Erin just got a job teaching in Las Vegan, Nevada, which is a long ways from here! It is much nicer to have them handier. She hasn't left yet. But I know what you mean--you are happy they have a job, but sad to have them farther away or harder to get to.

(oops, should read Las Vegas)

She will be teaching high school biology classes or various kinds.

I don't see you in Las Vegas somehow Mary but I am sure you will be visiting if Erin is there for long. I always remember us arriving at Las Vegas and looking up what was on. Well Frank Sinatra was on and we saw him there. Not my kind of town but I guess if you are passing through Nevada you have to visit.

I've never been there and have no particular desire to go--at all--EXCEPT to see Erin--AND there are some nice parks, I've heard. I could NOT care less about the Casinos and strip etc. AK! :-( Bleah!

I agree about Vegas, no desire although I would visit the Hoover Dam and go back to the Grand Canyon and I'm sure there are other things to see beside casinos, but thats what its known for. When my daughter was out west I was the same, a flight for a visit so 2 times a yesr at most. as you say, today you go where the work is. As to this wood, it is originally cedar and it turns over the years. some of the coastline houses were grey cedar from the wind and salt air. I don't know particularly why the cedar unless it grows well there...

I think it grows there, but also weathers well and doesn't rot as quickly as other wood.
