DUCKLINGS IN PODS WOOD

We took the grandchildren to see the ducklings on Easter Sunday when we had all the family over. I didn't take these pictures then. I went back with my 70-300 lens on a bit brighter day. I should try to get back again when it is even brighter as I need all the light I can get. The one with the duck drake and two yellow ducklings is a combo of 3 pics. Trouble being that I didn't have enough light to get them all in focus in one shot. I needed my widest aperture to get anything. There are trees all around the pond which makes it dark and most of these are on full 300 zoom so I need at least 400th sec to stop camera shake. I did up the ISO to 320 but I don't like the grain if I take it much further.

Thanks - what do you think about that little guy second from bottom? I must go back and see if his eyes still look like that. His yellow brother/sister doesn't have all that white. Makes him look like a cartoon character I think!

So appropriate for Easter Kate - how do you find the weight of the 70-300 lens ? I may have asked before, apologies if I have, its always of concern to me. Were you using a tripod ? although probably not with the trees around.

All I can say is it is heavier than my 18-70 but I guess I am used to it now. I have a way of carrying it. I flip the strap underneath the lens and hold on to the top of the strap so you are carrying it like a handbag. That way it doesn't wear your neck out. I would probly haves my rucksack on my back with the other lenses in. But actually my back prefers to have the rucksack. If I walk without one I get backache. My 105mm macro lens is actually heavier than the zoom. It is a real pucker lens-very well made. I never realised that when I bought it. But I do love it.
Oh the wee yellow duckling with the cartoon eyes has disappeared. There is only one yellow duckling now.

You're right I didn't use a tripod. Not cos of the trees but cos of the ducks. By the time you had it set up the ducks would have moved on.
